Tides & Traditions: From Ocean Waste to Cashew Spirit

Event Overview

As part of India Climate Week 2025, Sahasea invites you to Hollant Beach for a unique experience blending hands-on action, local storytelling, and cultural tastings. Together, we’ll explore how climate change impacts Goa’s shores and seas as well as its heritage crop – cashew, while taking steps towards a more sustainable future.

Event Flow

Early Morning Cleanup + Free Kayaking (7:00 AM – 10:00 AM)

  • Join our cleanup at Hollant.

  • The first 20 registered participants will be rewarded with a free guided kayaking session after the cleanup or another day whenever feasible.

  • Help us gather debris and ghost nets that will later feed into The Tide Will Tell wave installation.

Ghost Net Workshop & Ocean Climate Conversation (10:30 AM – 11:15 AM)

  • Learn about ghost nets — abandoned fishing gear that endangers marine life.

  • Hands-on workshop: create your own ghost net coaster to take home.

  • Climate discussion: How climate change impacts our oceans

    • Rising sea surface temperatures and coral bleaching.

    • Shifts in fish stocks affecting Goa’s fisheries.

    • Ocean acidification threatening shells and reefs.

    • Sea-level rise and coastal erosion visible on Goa’s shores.

Cashew & Climate: From Shell to Spirit (11:15 AM – 12:00 PM)

  • Explore the story of Goa’s iconic cashew crop and its GI-tagged spirit — Feni.

  • Talk: How climate change is reshaping agriculture in Goa

    • Irregular rainfall damaging flowering and fruiting cycles.

    • Higher temperatures reducing cashew yields.

    • Increased pest infestations linked to warmer conditions.

    • Unpredictable harvests affecting Feni production and farmer livelihoods.

  • Interactive tasting session: experience Goa’s cashew culture with guided sips and stories from our brewer friends from Dudhsagar Breweries

Closing Reflection & Tasting (12:00 PM – 12:30 PM)

  • Group reflection on personal climate pledges.

  • Light tasters (cashew brews/Feni).

  • Opportunity to connect with like-minded ocean and climate enthusiasts.

Registration Details

  • Entry Fee: Free with prior registration (limited spots).

  • Bonus: First 20 sign-ups who join the cleanup (7:00 – 10:00 AM) receive free kayaking same day or later whenever possible - 50% off on sea kayaking trips for 20+ people

  • Bring: Reusable water bottles, hats, and an open spirit for action + learning.
